Volunteer program offered by the Pichincha Spanish School

The Pichincha Spanish School has added volunteer projects to its program. There are three options for the voluntary service:

1.- Fundación Ayúdanos a Vivir: In this project you will help work with mentally disabled children (e.g. in the physiotherapy).

2.- Escuela de Español Pichincha: We offer you the option to do an internship/practical training in our Spanish School. (administration, communication, organization)

3.- Additionally, we can help you to find a volunteer project in any institution that you are interested in.

How to become a volunteer?

  • You need to be at least 18 years old.
  • At the beginning of the volunteer project you should speak Spanish well.
  • You need to have the enthusiasm and the motivation to help other people.
  • You should be flexible with the type of work as well as the working hours.
  • You should be open minded and willing to adapt to a different culture and environment.

How does this program of volunteering work?

The Pichincha Spanish School will find the “right” volunteer project for you. The selection of the work depends on the student’s abilities, work experience and education.

Volunteering is a big challenge. Sometimes, the work might seem hard or monotonous. But it should be kept in mind, that all of your effort and work will improve the community in which you are participating.

The Pichincha Spanish School, in cooperation with social institutions, provides volunteering from 2 weeks on (or longer).

Spanish classes:

If you already speak Spanish well, we ask you to take a minimum of 15 hours of Spanish lessons in our school. For students with a basic Spanish level or without any experiences in Spanish at all, it is recommendable to take classes for 6 weeks.

Notice: For volunteer projects in the Galapagos Islands, an advanced Spanish level is required.

During the Spanish classes there will be regular updates of information regarding your volunteer project in order to assure the appropriate preparation for your volunteer service.

Your time as a volunteer will start after having completed the Spanish course.

Accommodation during the Spanish classes and volunteer work:

Depending on the lengths of the volunteer work and the Spanish classes, the school offers the following services: lodging with a family, apartment, lodging in one of the social institutions. The lodging depends on where the volunteer project takes place. We choose the families very carefully.
